MEDIA ADVISORY: MAYOR STREET, JUDGE SHAPIRO TO HOLD "DIALOGUE ON FREEDOM" AT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

For Immediate Release

PRESS ADVISORY -- "DIALOGUE ON FREEDOM," a new American Bar Association initiative born in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11 and designed to foster discussions in our nation’s classrooms about American civic values and their compatibility with other cultures,

"Dialogue on Freedom" mobilizes judges and lawyers to go into American high schools and lead structured discussions with teenagers about American democracy and values against the backdrop of 9/11 and the war on terrorism. The project is the concept of Supreme Court Associate Justice Kennedy and is being carried out by thousands of volunteer lawyers, political leaders and judges in communities nationwide.

A Philadelphia meeting played a major role in the birth of the "Dialogue" program: last February Justice Kennedy gave an impassioned speech at the ABA’s Mid-Year meeting in Philadelphia, rallying American legal leaders to his vision. This will be the first "dialogue" held in the Philadelphia area.
