Governor Rendell Creates Working-Families Task Force, Financial Education Office

HARRISBURG: Governor Edward G. Rendell, responding to a decade-long decline in personal savings rates and rising personal-bankruptcy and foreclosure filings, today signed an Executive Order establishing the Governor's Task Force for Working Families and creating the Office of Financial Education.

"Financial literacy skills can greatly improve the quality of Pennsylvanians' lives, provide them with skills for success and contribute to positive changes for the communities in which they live and work, and ultimately benefit the state's economy," said Governor Rendell, who promised during his Feb. 3, 2004, budget address to create the task force and take on the issue of financial education.

The Governor appointed state Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Philadelphia, and Secretary of Banking William Schenck as co-chairmen of the task force and Hilary Hunt as director of the Office of Financial Education.
