LAW RELATED EDUCATION IN JUVENILE JUSTICE SETTINGS MANUAL ON-LINE

This edition of YFJ Net News focuses on an excellent resource now available on-line in PDF format.

In 1993, Youth for Justice - then known as the National Training and Dissemination Program or NTDP - published "Law Related Education in Juvenile Justice Settings," a comprehensive manual for JJ workers and other persons working in JJ facilities. The manual is an excellent resource for everyone in the LRE network, regardless of whether or not they are currently working in JJ facilities or settings.

"LRE in JJ Settings" includes:

• Information about the origins and development of justice for juveniles;
• Handy introductions to LRE as a delinquency prevention strategy, as a cognitive intervention, and in relation to risk and resiliency research;
• Instructions for using basic LRE strategies guidelines and suggested agendas for LRE training sessions;
• Models for staff development; and
• Tips for building effective networks

The manual is written in a clear, accessible style and offers a fine introduction for people new to LRE. It's also a useful reference for veteran LRE professionals in working with teachers and trainers across the country.
